Dave Portnoy Rescued by Coast Guard After Boat Loses Power
Founder of Barstool Sports and His Mother Rescued Off Nantucket
Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard on Monday after his boat lost power off the coast of Nantucket.
Portnoy, 47, said in a TikTok video that the harrowing rescue happened after he unhooked his boat from buoys. He said he was trying to fix a problem with the engine when the boat started to drift away.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is not good,’” Portnoy said in the video. “I started yelling for help, but there was nobody around.”
Portnoy said he and his mother were able to get into a life raft and were eventually rescued by the Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard confirmed the rescue in a statement, saying that Portnoy and his mother were “in good condition and did not require medical attention.”
Portnoy thanked the Coast Guard for their help in a tweet, saying that he was “forever grateful” for their service.
“I’m just glad that my mom and I are safe,” Portnoy said.
